Conference on Training

NOTES from playback of recording of Conference led by MBM

out the main points.  Also relation to the Compendium.

Training is related to whole-seeing.  Relation of the headings of the Compendium to each other.

No Training can take place without Teachings.  Training is following an organized method for accelerating the evolution of the self.  Coming into control of the self, based on Teachings.  Training has been recognized by all peoples.  Groups in training.  There are always techniques.

1. l) The purpose of subduing the physical. Must give opportunity to the self that inhabits the body; so it does not get into the way. Most systems emphasize some aspect.  That is good, from the point of view of the world — advertising, to the multitude needs.

The Training under my leadership has no such hooks.  This work is toward whole-seeing and whole-doing.

There is specific knowledge that belongs to Training, as against the over-all knowledge we touched on in the Compendium, in June.

The shift from the objective world to the subjective.  To the little self.  Training implies direct experience, as contrasted with intellectual knowledge.

The six points:

Knowledge of evolution: light spark towards its full maturity.  Change of concept from the horizontal to the vertical.

Evolution from the little self to the great Self: light spark as a seed to its maturity.

Knowledge of what the self is.

Laws which govern it.

Powers summarized under the eight seedlets.  Also, practical knowledge of the difference between the little self and the real self.  Story in fairy tales.

Conscious self vs subconscious: another division of the anatomy.  Dis-memberment.

The I principle and how to use it.  You have been tossed about as a dried leaf.  So Training implies experience.

Anatomy, equipment of the self.  Difference between what you have gained from family, race inheritance and what you have on your own.  Then you begin to use environment intelligently.

Application of the categories of all knowledge:  Earth knowledge is meant for horizontal traveling; to make sojourn increasingly comfortable.  But it is only horizontal.

Now turn to the second category.  Scriptures, the way of return, evolution, ascent. The ascent can only be done purposively, through the use of laws.  Mystical sciences state how that can be done.  Mysticism, allegory, astrology.  To be used in Training.

I have tried a way of bringing this Quest into the Aquarian climate.  The Ladders are an Aquarian way of describing the Quest.  Everything is a sum of what has proceeded.  Superimpose the great allegories, ten or twelve of them, on the Ladders.  The Ladders are a simplification of the Quest.

The necessity of understanding the problems and difficulties of the human self.  To know how to meet difficulties is the important thing.  You must know what your particular problems are and how to meet them, and to be on guard to what continually springs up in the garden of earth: Weeds to be taken out.

Pre-tutoring.  You must come to know the peculiar biases and what to do about them.  The IP course (Introductory Perspectives) is not it; the transition from the learning to the doing must be done.

The beginnings of some knowledge of the adjacent country; geography; metaphysics.

Attention on the self within (?).  Not going in circles.  In Training, critical observation turned upon the self.  (Ask) Why do I work this way?  What is my machinery?

You must see what a makeshift the personal self is.

Real training does not begin until near the end of Pre-Tutoring.  Pre-Tutoring deals with personal problems.  Throw off the things which have kept the personality as it is — the false king.  It is reluctant to let go.  In Training you get under the cover of these stories (False kings, etc.) and find the old allegories are your story.  Then they begin to be useful.

Begin to separate your faculties.  In rank growth, the faculties are all in a lump.  Feeling and thinking are mixed.  Biases are a mixture of memory, association, attachments, etc., various aspects of the eight seedlets.  In order to assemble anything, you have first to separate the parts.

Cleaning the faculties.  Taking into account also the heritage.  Then specific training, like subjective exercises, to sharpen specific tools in the self, especially memory and imagination.  They are the ones that make the trouble.

The search for truth cannot be undertaken without changes in the self.  We must clean the way in ourselves.

We begin to know ourselves in a different way; circulate around ourselves, working on ourselves.  And we are also that which is operated on.

The I principle, the linking between the human self and the great Self.  Like the Logos, the word that is spoken; the priest in the self, between the great Self, the Pattern which is there, and the little self.  When the I is faithful to that role Training goes on most auspiciously.

The self can never be alone.  (It moves outward and inward to others.)  This is marked in the Lotus Chart.  Difficulty because of ego-(feeling), which has had to struggle for itself.  We resent anything that is not what the self wants.

The re-assembling is to be done under the mind law.  Separating in order to do the re-assembling at will.  The self has to learn what the attachments are, and break a series of attachments: First, to the self as a prisoner; second, the need to survive against intrusion.  Then, literally to make a break from family.  Bondage to the family, to the self, etc. is useful from the esoteric point of view but the mindful overcoming of them is that which develops power.  One of the reasons we have come to earth.  You must free yourself from the earth of your life if you are in Training, like a seed; the need to free yourself from race.  Family and race envelop you.  Also a persona.  Must be overcome.

Next, the illusion that you are an earth being.  You are sojourning here, and you came here for reasons.  This is the vertical evolution of the self.

All should have access to the means that are most helpful in our evolution.  The world does not understand that.  The world needs slogans.  But in the Training I am setting up it is not like that.  You are the seeker.

Loyalty – (Here MBM expanded a little on the “six words” given the Group for pondering.  Loyalty was the first of these. GB)  Loyalty to vertical growth.  “Thou shalt love God.”  Loyalty to the Teachings.  To the Group, or comrades.

Sensitivity – Many things about which to be sensitive: When to speak and when not to speak.  To etheric conditions.  To others in the Group.  To world conditions, – to many things.

Responsibility, Service, Laughter and song.  There could not be anything more joyful than conscious evolution.  Should be glad and gay.  When the I is polarized to the evolving self all of life becomes a feast.

There are different kinds of Teachers.  I am different from the orthodox teacher of esoteric ways.  Discover the lineage of the kind of Teacher I am.  I wonder if you have unriddled the riddle.  It is of (?) the New Order, but its lineage.

     Theme:   How Shall We Live in Today’s World

The birth pangs of “One World.”  Two ideas of how men shall live in this world.  In the intangible Pattern: There shall be the beginnings, in mind, of a literal comprehension of what belongs to our Planetary System.

There is no solution except through the One World.  A larger One World.  This leads to the Compendium.  You are making your way toward whole-seeing.

1)  The three categories of all knowledge.  That embraces everything you can conceive: the simple and inclusive design.

    The hidden theme of this Conference and the next is Pattern:

1. a) Man knowledge. But not the whole.
2. b) Wisdom-teachings. They concern those things which divide man from the world of matter and enable him to grow.
3. c) Divine Wisdom. That belongs to the higher Heavens.  It does not come to earth at all.  It is not knowable by you in earth but is accessible through the second category.  Divine Wisdom is like the sky – something you cannot pierce but you would not be without it.

As you grow in whole-seeing you conceive that the third category leads to an All-embracing One.

2)  The Great Four motif:  That motif is not new but I have clarified it; shown how it is related to man’s activity.  Earth corresponds to science; water, to psychology; fire, the first questing upward — religion; air, your major substance: the body of you, the heart of you; the quest; and the mind, not the intellect.  The second kind (of knowledge) you cannot have except you have done other preliminary work.

3)  The Three Realms of Law:  An old Teaching, like the Four, a mother number.  You will see that the steps I have given you are the realms of cause and effect in the three parts of you.  But that is only the little local picture.  The real thing is that there is, in the three categories of all knowledge, a division in life: that which belongs to the high planes, like the Divine Wisdom in the one case; the Wisdom-lore, which is coming from above to man; and man’s knowledge.  You will see there is a close relationship between the Three Realms of Law and the Three Categories.

    The second category is the one in which you are being shaped and disciplined and learning, if you will, that you may grow up to higher stature.  You can make your way through what is told, first, in allegory and myth, so that you can close the space between you and the higher worlds.

4)  That you, a little seed pod, think in large terms.  Ether carries seed, like the air.  I am broadcasting today.

5)  Your own search, and the way you search, shapes your progress in the Pattern.  You should go into a more rapid time-condition than the world.

6)  MBM gives the mind equation which answers the Why? of nations and races.  The experience of the Mesopotamian Project or the Egyptian Project is to experientially know this.  Behind the races are the Leaders who came to them; who deposited in their midst a seed of Teaching which fitted, as well as could be, their times, their peculiarities as a people, and aided them on their way.

That is why “religious tolerance” is an evasion.  If there is a great factor that is shaping all things in our System, including our earth, then we must go for that.  So there must be an understanding of the common denominators in all religions — and the barnacles that have grown on them.  Habits, superstitions, easy ways, etc., disguising the real meanings.  The Teachers could not give the whole Teaching.  Jesus could do only a little.  The popular Teaching, the outer crust as referring to human behavior, has no linkage (?) with the Director (?) of our universe — the metaphysics, or science, of it.  It can’t even be given now.

7)  The idea of Pattern and patterns.  An apparently contradictory idea, cutting across volition.  There is a Pattern of evolution.  When they (Teachers?) have emerged they have been in the key language of that age.  How relatively simple, it seems now, was the teaching of Zoroaster in the battle between the dark forces and Ahura!  Most people know little more of the Teachings of Jesus than Zoroaster taught.  He could not teach beyond the scope of the people to receive it.

The Aquarian climate has taken extremely well on the material levels.  When we come to the higher stages, such as we are discussing, it is not easy; it is difficult.  But there is the all-over Pattern.  And on that Pattern, usually a Teacher who has come, has woven the Pattern of that age on the Great Pattern.

In the New Age there is required a wide perspective, understanding, knowledge.  And we have all the reluctance of using minds, because that is lifting weight beyond the height to which we have lifted it before.

The plan for the working out of the Pattern through the patterns means obedience to Law.  Voluntary obedience to Law.  That pertains whether you are in earth or summerland, or whatever plane or zones you have reached.

8)  The “Four Components” I worked out, to simplify the Pattern.  These columns also bear on “Whole-seeing.”

9)  Order and love of God are virtually synonymous.  Love of the Light brings about Order.  Otherwise it is not love.

In the earlier ages there was not the challenge of mind in these things.  Now I am bringing you face to face.  Repetition, etc. does not count.  No more.  That was for the days before mind.  Today, a Pattern means search and obedience to Law.  Purposemeans accomplishing the human evolution — or more, if you can see it — to be a screw part of a great Machine, all related to Learning, Brotherhood, Building.

This can’t be done without seeing its relation to the Larger.  This, again, is whole-seeing: One System; the increasing understanding of the Pattern; the working upon it on your own pattern — your part in this dawning New Age.

10) The linking of MBM’s work to the Seventh Plane.  Therefore it is peculiarly important how you speak your piece.  On you rests, therefore, with increasing clarity, the responsibility of speaking for your kind.  What can you do that is reassuring to those who are watching you in working out the Plan?
